5 Tips For a Healthy Smile

A healthy smile is one of the first things people notice about you that also affects how you feel about yourself. The condition of your teeth also affects what other people may think of you.
People view someone with a healthy smile as younger, more successful, and more attractive. While people view damaged or compromised teeth as older, less successful and less attractive. With so many assumptions on how your teeth look, it only makes sense that people with great smiles are generally more confident than people with badly damaged teeth.
Here are 5 things you can do to ensure you have a healthy smile:
1. Brush twice a day
Brushing your teeth twice a day is one of the best things you can do for your teeth. Brushing is an effective way to remove food particles and plaque from most of the surfaces of your teeth. As the bacteria in the plaque feed on food particles, it produces acids that damage the enamel of your teeth.
By brushing at least twice a day, you minimize the exposure your teeth have to these acids by cutting down on the number of bacteria in your mouth and removing food particles before they can be broken down into plaque.
2. Floss daily
As effective as brushing can be when it comes to removing food particles from the surface of your teeth, it is not enough to clean the spaces between your teeth and other hard-to-reach areas. That is where flossing comes in. Dental floss can clean the places your toothbrush cannot reach.
The bacteria in your mouth will not care where they find food particles to convert into acids, so keep the tight spaces in your mouth just as clean as the rest of your mouth.
3. Use antibacterial mouthwash
The use of an antibacterial mouthwash will help you clean places in your mouth that flossing and brushing cannot reach. It will also help you to lower the number of bacteria in your mouth and freshen your breath.
4. Eat wisely
The things you consume affect the way your teeth look. For example, foods that contain lots of sugar tend to lead to tooth decay, so limit how much of these you consume and brush your teeth afterward. Some foods – like coffee and red wine – have strong coloring agents, so consume those in moderation as well.
Not all foods are bad for your teeth. The things you eat can also provide your teeth with essential nutrients like calcium and fluoride. Make sure you eat lots of foods that are good for your teeth like dairy products and green leafy vegetables.
5. Get regular dental cleanings
Regular dental cleanings should be part of your oral hygiene routine. Our dental office will remove lots of harmful tartar while you’re there, and he/she will look for any signs of developing issues.
